John Gilbert steps down as Rudin COO

John Gilbert, long-serving technology chief and COO of real estate management and development firm Rudin, is leaving the firm to work at subsidiary Prescriptive Data, according to The Real Deal.

“When I was first hired, I was told that I would be taught the ‘Rudin way’ of doing business, its ethos and culture, and some day way off in the future help its transition to the next generation. That day has come,” Gilbert said in a statement.

Gilbert has acted as Rudin’s chief technology officer (CTO) since joining 29 years ago, later taking on COO responsibilities. He will continue to serve the firm as a strategic advisor, according to the company.

Prescriptive Data, a smart building and climate technology company, was founded by Gilbert and Rudin’s head of building operations Gene Boniberger in 2015. Gilbert was instrumental in developing the company’s smart building operating system, Nantum OS, which is now used across North America and uses machine learning and AI capabilities to reduce operating costs, improve tenant comfort and increase energy efficiency.

Since then the company has launched an engagement app in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a co-development between WeWork and Boston Properties, and entered into real-time insight and spacial utilization based on digital twins.
